Construction jobs were added in 32 states in August

Thirty-two states and Washington, D.C., added construction jobs in August as contractors continued to struggle to find workers, according to Associated General Contractors of America. Forty-five states and Washington, D.C., added construction jobs during the past year.

“Construction has been a leading source of employment growth almost universally in the past year,” said Ken Simonson, AGC’s chief economist. “But contractors report needing even more workers as large projects rev up across the country.”

California added the most construction jobs from July to August—4,700—and Wyoming had the largest percentage increase of construction jobs for the month—3.5%. During the past 12 months, Texas added the most construction jobs—21,000—and Wyoming had the largest percentage increase—13%

Tennessee lost the largest number of construction jobs (-2,400) for the month and had the largest percentage decline (-1.6%). During the past 12 months, Missouri lost the most construction jobs (-2,700) and North Dakota had the largest percentage decline (-3.8%).
