Construction jobs were added in 27 states from January to February

Twenty-seven states and Washington, D.C., added construction jobs in February, according to Associated General Contractors of America. Thirty-one states and Washington, D.C., added construction jobs during the past year.

“Contractors in a majority of states added workers in February compared to the previous month and a year ago,” said AGC Chief Economist Ken Simonson. “But the increases have been getting less widespread as concern grows over the possible impact of tariffs, retaliatory measures by U.S. trading partners, and the pending cancellation of work authorizations for workers from certain countries.”

Ohio added the most construction jobs from January to February—8,200—and West Virginia had the largest percentage increase of construction jobs for the month—2%. During the past 12 months, Texas added the most construction jobs—21,700—and New Mexico had the largest percentage increase—12.2%.

Washington lost the largest number of construction jobs (-9,600) for the month and had the largest percentage decline (-4.3%). During the past 12 months, California lost the most construction jobs (-14,900) and Montana had the largest percentage decline (-6.4%).
