Twenty-five states and Washington, D.C., added construction jobs in June, and construction employment is up in 31 states since February 2020, according to www.agc.org.
Pennsylvania added the most construction jobs from May to June—4,400—and Oregon had the largest percentage increase of construction jobs for the month—2.4%. California lost the largest number of construction jobs (-6,100) for the month and Connecticut had the largest percentage decline (-2.9%).
Thirty-one states added construction jobs from February 2020 to June. Utah added the most jobs—16,100—and had the largest percentage increase during that period—14.1%. New York lost the most construction jobs since February 2020 (-36,300 jobs) and had the largest percentage decline (-8.9%).
“Construction employment has stalled in many states, even though contractors have plenty of projects needing more employees, due to a dearth of qualified workers,” said Ken Simonson, chief economist for Associated General Contractors of America. “Only half the states had an increase in construction employment last month.”
