Thirty-two states and Washington, D.C., added construction jobs in December 2021, and construction employment is down in 26 states since February 2020 amid labor shortages, according to www.agc.org.
Texas added the most construction jobs from November 2021 to December 2021—10,400—and West Virginia had the largest percentage increase of construction jobs for the month—4.6%. Florida lost the largest number of construction jobs (-3,400) for the month, and Alabama and Rhode Island had the largest percentage decline (0.9%).
Twenty-three states and Washington, D.C., added construction jobs from February 2020 to December 2021. Utah added the most jobs—10,000—and South Dakota had the largest percentage increase during that period—10.5%. New York lost the most construction jobs from February 2020 to December 2021 (-42,000 jobs), and Louisiana had the largest percentage decline (-12.6%).
