Construction jobs added in 42 states during past 12 months

Forty-two states added construction jobs from June 2018 to June 2019, and 30 states added construction jobs from May to June, according to www.agc.org.

“Construction demand remains robust across most states, and contractors continue to add workers when they can find them,” says Ken Simonson, chief economist for the Associated General Contractors of America. “But contractors are struggling to find all the workers they need in many states, as shown by the historically high number of job openings at the end of May.”

California added the most construction jobs—40,300—between June 2018 and June 2019. Texas, Florida, Arizona and Georgia also added a large number of construction jobs. Additionally, West Virginia added the highest percentage of new construction jobs during the past year, followed by Wyoming, Arizona and Alaska.

California added the most construction jobs from May to June—11,900—followed by Texas, Georgia, Florida and Arizona. Wyoming added the highest percentage of construction jobs for the month.

Eight states lost construction jobs between June 2018 and June 2019. Louisiana lost the highest number of construction jobs—12,300—followed by Massachusetts, Maryland, Connecticut and Montana. Construction employment fell in 17 states from May to June, and Nevada lost more than any other state—4,200.
