As Gov. Steve Sisolak (D-Nev.) renews focus on workforce training and development in Nevada, the first Apprenticeship Day was held April 23 at the Nevada Legislature, according to thisisreno.com.
Representatives from registered apprenticeship programs throughout the state spoke to attendees about apprenticeships, answered questions, and provided hands-on activities that gave participants a chance to slip into a tradesperson role.
"We've been shining a brighter light on our construction apprenticeships for a couple of years now, and we're excited to get some momentum at the legislative level," says Dian Vanderwell, recruiter for the Northern Nevada Apprenticeship Coordinators Association.
There is a recent push in the state to attract more women into Nevada's building and construction trades apprenticeship programs. Nevada falls behind the national average (9%) in the number of women working in construction.
